From the moment they step foot on campus, our students set out on a journey to discover who they are and find their place in the world. Every day they soar higher, fostered by a culture of giving back to the College and the scholarship programs that have supported generations of Soaring Eagles.

There are many opportunities to benefit EC students and the College in meaningful ways. The Office of Institutional Advancement works with donors to find the opportunity that matches their desires and supports the programs and initiatives that benefit our campus and students.

Ways to Give

My name is Kaitlyn Potter. I’m a Criminal Justice and Psychology double Major, a Legal Studies Minor, and a member of the Tenacious Class of 2025.

I came to Elmira from the rural town of Eldred, New York, where I was valedictorian of my class and the only female wrestler at my high school. While my course of study and being able to wrestle were important aspects of choosing Elmira, the scholarship I received made the greatest impact. Thanks to the generosity of alumna and alumnus, like you, I am able to move forward with my dream of being a lawyer, while participating in a sport I love.

Today, I can honestly say I’m so happy that I chose Elmira College. I am excelling academically, making the dean’s list every term and being inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. I have grown as a wrestler, learning from my Coach and team. However, my greatest accomplishment thus far has been finding my voice. As an individual who once struggled with speaking up, I’m truly grateful for the strength Elmira College has instilled in me.

Inspiring the leaders of tomorrow is central to the Elmira College experience. I am thankful for all the opportunities Elmira has provided, and I look forward to my continued growth and success. Your gifts mean so much to students, like me, who rely on scholarships. Please make your contribution today by mailing a check, going online to 4m2g.butchknightner.com/give, or calling (607) 735-1770

Be it ever so,

Kaitlyn Potter ’25

The Class of 2008’s Guide to Rocking Your 20th Reunion

Calling all Elmira College Alumni… Want to leave a lasting legacy at your Elmira College? The Class of 2008 is here to guide you through simple steps to make a real impact. The Class has already gotten a jump on their 2028 Reunion Class Gift, funding the creation of a campus patio to be located between Perry and Tompkins Residence Halls, by utilizing the three easy steps below. These steps are sure to get your classmates on board and help create a lasting legacy that your Class will be proud to leave behind.

  • Planning is everything. Start by working with the EC Advancement team to determine your project and timeline. The Class of 2008 has already begun fundraising for their 20th reunion, giving them five years to reach their project goal and make their big reveal at the 2028 Reunion. In addition, it is important to identify a project that is both meaningful to your Class and beneficial to future generations of Soaring Eagles.
  • Grow your Class spirit. Who knows your classmates better than you? Reach out to classmates and reminisce about your time at EC - Holiday Banquet, Candlelight, and Midnight Breakfast. Utilize the College’s annual Day of Giving to ramp up support. This coming year, Elmira Everlasting is on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. On this day every gift counts, large or small. And the Class with the highest number of gifts will be crowned the Most Everlasting Class, a title held by the Class of 2008 for the past two years. Collaborating for a common cause will reunite your Class and remind them of the bond you share.
  • Launch your project in a unique way. The Class of 2008  turned to social media and launched an online campaign on 8/8 to kick off their reunion fundraiser. Top donors and participants were entered to win gift cards supplied by Class Officers. They promoted the campaign on social media throughout the day, encouraging each other to keep going. With 38 donors and over $2,000 in gifts, it was a great way to begin their project.

When asked why she supports Elmira College, Class Agent Megan Metro ’08, explains, “It will forever be my home away from home. All these years later I still get the ‘warm and fuzzies’ when I step on campus. EC is truly the place that set me on the path to becoming the person I am today. I know how transformative a liberal arts education can be and how without the help of alumni, I would not have had the experiences I did. After being on the receiving end, it brings me such joy to pay it forward and help support current students. EC is built on traditions, one of which is a tradition of alumni involvement and support. I’m truly so proud to get to be a part of that tradition.”

Together, your Class can make a lasting impact that will ensure a legacy for generations to come. For information on getting your Class involved or project ideas, contact the EC Advancement Office at (607) 735-1770 or advancement@butchknightner.com
